Learn how to pick limited edition dice sets from conventions like Gen Con, with tips on rarity, design, and value. Includes rules for BattleTech and liquid core dice.
Quick answer
Choose convention exclusive dice by focusing on your preferred theme, material durability, and visual effect. For a missile-barrage aesthetic, the BattleTech Missile Resin Dice Set fits; for a dynamic liquid core display, the Gen Con 2026 Flight of Genevieve set stands out.
Why convention exclusives are different
Convention exclusive dice sets are produced in limited quantities and often feature unique designs or themes tied to an event. This scarcity can make them more collectible, but it also means you may need to decide quickly before they sell out. Understanding the material and visual features helps you pick a set that matches your play style or display preference.
Resin vs. liquid core: trade-offs
Resin dice like the BattleTech Missile set are durable and have a realistic metallic finish, ideal for regular tabletop use. Liquid core dice, such as the Flight of Genevieve set, offer mesmerizing motion but require more careful handling because the fluid-filled center can be sensitive to extreme temperatures or impacts. Choose resin for rugged gaming, liquid core for visual wow factor.
Decision rules for convention exclusive dice
- Theme first: Match the dice theme to your favorite game or aesthetic. BattleTech fans will appreciate the missile design, while fantasy or sci-fi players may prefer the liquid core look.
- Check material durability: Resin dice are more impact-resistant for frequent rolling. Liquid core dice are best for display or occasional use in controlled environments.
- Act fast on limited releases: Convention exclusives often sell out quickly. If you see a set you like, purchase early to avoid missing out. Set a budget and prioritize one or two sets to avoid impulse buying.
